What skills do I need to get a job as a Quant analyst/Trader in the UK?

As a young engineer, given my interest in equity markets, any skills I need to practice on? Say, pricing of Options (B&S etc) ?

Also, which programming languages must I be familiar with? Will C be sufficient, or must I study also VC++/JAVA? Which one is preferred?
